Hi everyone,
It’s getting pretty cold outside as winter creeps toward us, so it’s no wonder we’re feeling a bit of an escapist urge at Spocksoc HQ (and it’s not just because cold weather makes the Shadow Council hungry). At this time of year, there’s nothing we like more than settling in with a show that can take us far, far away. Behind the moon, beyond the rain…maybe even somewhere over the rainbow.
Wednesday
This Wednesday, we’re definitely not in Kansas anymore with the first (and it appears, only) season of Emerald City. A “reimagining” of L. Frank Baum’s Oz series that is taking its cues from the books just as much as the 1939 movie, which is a refreshing change. It’s also describing itself as dark and gritty, which is…less so. There’s no room for the Lollipop Guild here.
Anyway! It does look gorgeous in a Game of Thrones-ish aesthetic kind of way, and stars Vincent D’Onofrio (aka the Kingpin from Daredevil) in an improbable wig as the The Wizard. While it has sadly been given the axe by NBC, that won’t stop us from enjoying it to the fullest.

Friday
On Friday we return to National City for another session of Supergirl! So far this season Kara has faced everything from fratboyish Daxamites to the US President herself, and even managed to fit in a bit of crossover dimension-hopping. She also appears to be on a romantic collision course with Mon-El, which. Fine. Whatever. In more interesting romantic news, Maggie and Alex finally kissed, it was adorable, I nearly cried, etc etc.
But it’s not all sunshine and roses – the sinister Cadmus organisation and its leader Lillian Luthor are determined to purge Earth of alien influence. How will this affect Kara’s blossoming BFF-ery which should totally become romantic because their chemistry is amazing with Lillian’s daughter Lena? Only time will tell.
We’ll be starting with episode nine of season two (episode eight was sacrificed on the altar of the crossover gods) and watching about seven episodes. As always, the fun begins at 5pm in the Macauley Theatre, with a dinner break around 7ish. Questions? Our facebook event can be found here.
